Greener Pastures…

GPTVPitchImage01-7Colour-5RGB-Crop1-300dpi.jpg

The award winning fan favourite, nineties classic comic Greener Pastures, makes a triumphant return with new adventures and a new storyline. A mysterious stranger, talkshow TV, and a dire warning set the scene for the return of Trevor Bovis: a depressed minotaur who works as tax lawyer and lives in human suburbia, hiding in plain sight. Can Trevor save us from a literal Biblical Armageddon while also dealing with the crushing guilt of disappointing his family and abandoning his animal brethren?

Characters

Trevor Bovis

One sunny day in rural NSW, a stud bull decides that farm life is just too boring. He stands on his hind legs and heads off to the bright lights of the big city. Dubbed Trevor Bovis, he hooks up with the asthmatic fanatic, Colin McGuinn, and together they get up to all sorts of shenanigans.

Colin McGuinn

A left wing, mature age university student, asthmatic fanatic, animal activist, Colin has never really grown up or ever had a tight grasp on how the world really works. Heir to the McGuinn’s fast food restaurant empire, he does't believe in God and is shit-scared of dying.

Is this just an old bloke in a toga and sandals, or was he cursed by God to spend the last few thousand years under the sea after exposing himself to his kids in a drunken tirade? Either way, he's a mysterious stranger with a dire warning for humanity and a vested interest in Trevor.

Michael Michalandos

Beatnik poet, master illusionist, and rally-car driver – Michael Michalandos is none of these. His life is remarkably uninteresting, except for when a stud bull entered his home, rearranged his soft-furnishings, and exited through the back door. Mike authors legal advices, drafts executive contracts, and scripts management training sessions. He plans to lose weight.

Tim McEwen

Tim is a comic book creator, storyboard artist, cartoonist, designer and educator. He has championed Australian comic books since the 1990s as a distributor, publisher, event organiser, commentator, reviewer, advocate and more, including re-establishing the Ledger Awards in 2014. In 2018 he received the Platinum Ledger Award for services to Australian comics.

History

Greener Pastures was created by Michael Michalandos and Tim McEwen in early 1990 as a regular comic strip for the University of New South Wales student newspaper Tharunka. It ran for 12 episodes before Michael graduated and so publication stopped.

The Greener Pastures comic proper was self-published from 1994 by Michael and Tim. Seven regular issues were produced, two half-issues, a special and several mini-comics, as well as shorts in many various places. The last regular issue published was Greener Pastures #7.5 (1998).

The regular issues were distributed internationally via Diamond Comic Distribution and sold in the thousands, gathering fans across the world while strengthening the fanbase in Australia.

Greener Pastures has been nominated for 17 awards over the years, winning two in 1997 (the OzCon Awards for Favourite Writer and Favourite Character), and has featured in 14 exhibitions internationally between 1993 and 2020, including in France, Poland, Germany, and of course, Australia.

Michael and Tim have been interviewed many times for TV, radio, mainstream and independent newspapers, magazines and websites, with Greener Pastures garnering almost unanimously favourable reviews.

The current work, being serialised in Adventure Illustrated (Cyclone Comics), is an all-new Greener Pastures graphic novel that finally answers all the questions about who Trevor actually is and why he can talk and walk like a person.
